The Taste of Language
The taste of language is a Gruntwig LLP project aiming to achieve intercultural dialogue and a deeper understanding about lifestyle, traditions, language and cultural heritage among five European countries,
France, Italy, Slovakia, Sweden and United Kingdom. Learners from these different countries meet to share experiences about local foods and cooking traditions. In this informal setting new language skills will be developed indirectly as training in the local language will be one part of the workshops. In this manner we hope to achieve a new methodological approach on informal language learning, inspired by the Swedish concept of the study circle.
The project aim is to ensure that the learners in our target groups (adults, old people):
• Increase their language skills in several others European languages
• Learn more about the food and cooking traditions in other parts of Europe
• Improve their awareness of healthy cooking
• Achieve a deeper understanding about cultural differences and similarities in different european countries
• Improve their self esteem as their knowledge about the European community increases and they develop new networks with people outside their everyday environment
• A special focus will be on learners with disadvantaged backgrounds, such as immigrants, unemployed and otherwise socially excluded people.
